Barry Hodge Announces His Retirement

AuthorDavid Pearson

MBM wishes to announce that Barry Hodge, Executive Quantity Surveyor, will be retiring in August. Barry has been a valued member of MBM for the last five years and not only has he delivered a number of large and high profile projects, he has importantly assisted in building our presence in Victoria and mentoring junior team members.

Barry has been in the industry for over 45 years and has worked in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, China and the Marshall Islands. He is renowned for his skills in risk based cost estimating and the development and implementation of cost code structures and their application during the construction phase of a project.

“Barry is highly respected in the industry and whilst he will be missed, MBM has been working with Barry to transition to his retirement. He has played a vital role in developing and mentoring our team in Melbourne and there has been a seamless transition to General Manager, Lee Williams over the last 12 months,” said CEO, David Pearson.  “On behalf of MBM we thank and acknowledge Barry for his contribution to not only to MBM but to the industry as a whole.”

Barry said, “I will miss MBM, the friendly culture balanced with a strong client focus is the key to MBM’s success.  Over the years, I have been privileged to work on some very interesting projects and would encourage the next generation, particularly women to join the industry.  Whilst there is often a trend not to involve a Quantity Surveyor early enough in the process means we are often the voice of reason and bearer of bad tidings, so we are not always the most popular team member. But at the end of the day, we are very much appreciated because the cost is not only vital to clients it is often of paramount importance. We are very much the unspoken heroes,”

Barry and his wife have some exciting retirement plans and will be travelling around the globe. On behalf of MBM we wish you a happy retirement and best wishes as you start a new chapter in your life.
