The Alfred Hospital was founded in 1871 and is the oldest Melbourne hospital operating from its original site.
The aging infrastructure of the hospital requires major upgrades to address compliance issues. The 2018/19 State Budget provided funding of $69.5m to upgrade essential engineering services in the Main Ward Block (MWB) at the hospital. The project scope involves heavy refurbishment works to 5 inpatient wards in the MWB, with a strong focus on improving patient services including the upgrades to engineering infrastructure, fire safety, and the removal of hazardous materials.
To ensure no loss of patient beds during the upgrade works, a separate Decant Phase project was required, and included the relocation of 39 Main Ward Block beds to various decanting spaces in the hospital for the duration of the upgrade works. MBM are providing full quantity surveying services for both Decant Phase and Main Works Phase.
