The Novotel Sydney City Centre, formerly the Mercure Sydney Wynyard, has undergone a circa $20m refurbishment to transform the luxury establishment. Located in the heart of the CBD and managed by Accor, the revitalisation emphasised sustainability through minimal environmental impacts and optimised spaces. The design approach – a Novotel new brand concept known as ‘Hypothesis’ – transcends traditional hospitality. Guests can indulge in luxury with amenities like the onsite restaurant, Birdie Bar & Brasserie, gourmet experiences, and the recently unveiled Novotel Fitness Studio.

In partnership with global investment management company, Salter Brothers, MBM were engaged for the provision of cost management expertise to support the Novotel’s redevelopment, which spanned 283 rooms over 22 floors. Our team contributed to the project through the delivery of full quantity surveying services driven by Director and Western Sydney lead, Xan Duong.

The refurbishment scope works consist of guestrooms, FOH, F&B and full facade revitalisation. MBM provided full quantity surveying services inclusive of pre contract, post contract services, bank drawdowns and tax depreciation schedule.

Xan Duong was delighted to be involved in a project that prioritised the inclusion of sustainable development. “Working on a breakthrough hospitality project like the Novotel Sydney was an enriching experience. The core of the refurbishment was environmentally conscious design – a welcome and growing trend in the construction industry. Our commercial collaboration with Salter Brothers on another fantastic hotel was a delight to be a part of.”

The contributions of MBM were finalised in early 2024, with the Novotel Sydney City Centre now open to guests.
