Project Background and Scope

The Ambulance Victoria Capital Program focuses on the upgrades and creation of ambulance stations across Victoria to provide improved working conditions for paramedics and emergency services in undertaking care for Victorians. The state budget of 2021-2022 invested more than $470m over the following four years to assist in meeting the increasing demand for ambulance services, with impacts from the COVID pandemic continuing to pressure the sector.
The 2021 program focuses on approximately 30 ambulance station projects, either completed, in progress, or in planning. Key sites included Mornington and Lilydale for new ambulance branches.

Project Challenges

The strain of the COVID-19 pandemic provided opportunities for Ambulance Victoria to close the gap in operations and service delivery. Since the pandemic, more acute health issues have risen nationally, and the number of paramedics and ambulances on the road has called for an increase alongside the need for more ambulance stations across the state. It is imperative throughout the project that the impacts of COVID are factored into the planning and development of the sites to accurately cater for the increased number of patients, triage services, ambulances and their drivers.
