South Australia’s social and affordable housing supply will get a boost thanks to Westside Housing’s Findon project. The not-for profit organisation helps people with low incomes access affordable accommodation through discounted rental homes. Westside’s latest project will replace two semi-detached homes at 5 and 7 Mill Street, Findon, with seven brand new townhouses. The homes will create safe spaces for people in need and offer stability for individuals and families who face housing insecurity.
Westside engaged MBM to bring its vision of quality affordable housing to life through expert cost management and quantity surveying guidance. Rob Williamson, Associate Director and General Manager of MBM South Australia, led the firm’s contributions and Independent Certifier services with support from Senior Quantity Surveyor Tharanga Dissanayake, alongside Associate Quantity Surveyors Tom Lumber and Hannah Yang. Once built, residents will enjoy thoughtfully designed homes with modern amenities that include heating, cooling, security features, and fully fenced outdoor areas. The homes also comply with 7-Star energy rating.
Rob and his team shaped the project’s success through cost and risk management that safeguarded the delivery of homes on time and within budget. MBM’s South Australian experts provided tender evaluations, tender interviews, contract administration expertise, and certifications of completed dwellings. The team also reviewed planning approvals, related permits, issues for construction documents, project programs, in addition to extension of time claims and delay cure plans.
Rob appreciated the opportunity to support Westside’s vision and to fuel real social impact through the project. He commented,
“Our partnership with Westside Housing supported the smooth, uninterrupted progress of a critical housing initiative in South Australia, and ultimately, eased the burden for people in need. The entire MBM team is thrilled to help give local families access to safe, secure and sustainable affordable housing for people who face housing insecurity to call home.”
Westside Housing’s redevelopment at 5 and 7 Mill Street, Findon has recently been tendered and awarded to Bruce Interiors & Construction (BIC). The project has successfully commenced on site in June 2025.
