Set in Melbourne’s south-east, the Victorian Government is investing $1.1 billion into the redevelopment of Frankston Hospital. Peninsula Health, major health service provider for Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, is partnering with the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority to deliver an expanded acute facility on the Frankston Hospital Campus to replace the existing multiday inpatient units and expand mental health services, remaining as an elective and emergency hospital. The project takes place on the western side of the hospital campus with interfaces to existing buildings including the emergency department and operating theatre suites.
To cater for Frankston’s growing population, the project will deliver a new tower with 12 levels of clinical services and a main entrance for the hospital, as well as 130 new beds, 15 new operating theatres, and new spaces for mental health and oncology services. Additionally, women’s and children’s services will be expanded introduce new maternity, obstetrics and paediatric wards, new women’s clinic, and a special care nursery. The emergency department will also be expanded for a new mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub with a dedicated paediatric space. The redevelopment will allow the New Frankston Hospital to treat approximately 35,000 more patients a year, reducing pressure on other Melbourne Hospitals and benefiting the community with lower wait times for treatment.
