Project Background and Scope

Blacktown City Council redeveloped Francis Park into a multi-use space containing facilities for passive and active recreation.
The parking areas were extended, and new facilities were added such as a bus stop, public toilets. A new bio-retention and wetland system complement the natural habitat. The stormwater harvesting and re-use system was constructed to supply a sustainable water source for irrigation and toilet flushing and thus a reduction of cost of water usage in the Precinct.
There are hard & soft court activity areas for football, netball and basketball fields, roller skating rink, walking, cycling and jogging tracks. New social areas with free BBQs, picnic tables & shelters, a community garden, garden shed and a Cafe were provided. The four new playground and waterplay spaces for different ages, skill levels and abilities are very popular.
Weekends are a hive of activity with family and community get togethers and regular events are held on the large lawn. The walking/jogging/cycling track gets lots of use as does the outdoor basketball courts. Bird life abounds due to the wetland and woodland areas.
