VIDA Health (VHBA) is bringing the state’s aged care facilities into the future, through the State Government’s Better Aged Care for Regional Victorians Program.
This program marks milestone investments to upgrade and replace existing aged care facilities, from the Sunraysia region through to East Gippsland.
With oversight from Central Gippsland Health, the Maffra aged care facility will offer a 30 single-bed residence with private ensuites to meet a range of complex care needs. The facility will provide specialist care in a home-like setting, while residents remain close to their community and support networks. Improved working conditions for staff and contemporary spaces for connection, independence and wellbeing are central to the design. The redevelopment is also expected to generate more than 200 construction jobs at its peak, contributing to the local economy.
MBM has provided full cost and value management services on the Maffra aged care facility, from feasibility study reviews through to all design phase cost planning, tender evaluation, and will provide services during construction contract administration and the defects liability period. MBM’s contributions to the Maffra site are led by Associate Lyn Yang. The project is backed by MBM’s Victorian Team, including Executive Quantity Surveyors Joanne Chan and Shaun Sciberras, Senior Quantity Surveyors Tamara Perera and Timothy Rice, alongside Quantity Surveyor Lynda Cormie and Assistant Quantity Surveyor Milad Elyasi.
The team guided the project through option testing and risk analysis that steered decision-making and managed market volatility. Design measures align with VIDA Health’s focus on delivering environmentally sustainable health infrastructure. Sustainability features include
embedded passive house principles, all-electric high-efficiency services, optimised solar PV arrays, and EV charging for fleet vehicles.
Associate Lyn Yang shared her enthusiasm for the new aged care infrastructure and highlighted the opportunities the space can create for residents to live healthier, more comfortable lives. Lyn stated,
