In partnership with Zoos Victoria, Development Victoria is delivering the $88m Werribee Open Range Zoo expansion with a state-of-the-art elephant habitat. MBM has been providing extensive quantity surveying services throughout the project which includes the construction of a 21-hectare elephant habitat featuring a herd and bull barn, two pools, breeding facilities, a pedestrian walking trail, and viewing areas for visitors.
MBM’s Melbourne and Sydney teams are working together to provide cost management expertise across the exhibits in addition to the two dedicated overpass bridges, training yards and breeding facilities. The team provided cost management services of surrounding habitats and maintained existing vegetation and greenery.
Led by Associate Director Edward Robins with assistance from Director Lee Williams, Associate Linh Tran, and Quantity Surveyor Nathan Huang, MBM’s experts have contributed across the pre-tender/contractor tender submissions and will continue to provide services across the construction and post-construction phases. As the project’s lead cost consultants, the team has assisted with value management workshops to suggest alternative design, material solutions, cost plans based off agreed workshop decisions, pre-tender estimates, monthly reporting and meetings, progress claims, alongside multiple variation and provisional sum assessments.
Associate Director Ed Robins was thrilled for the opportunity to help deliver an immersive experience for the Zoo’s stakeholders. “This was a great project knowing that our cost management services will benefit the community and create conscientious animal habitats, upgraded staff facilities, and enjoyable visitor experiences.”
The Werribee Open Range Zoo expansion prioritises animal welfare and spotlights the not-for-profit wildlife reserve as a cultural hub in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The project is expected to be completed in late 2024 and opened to the public in 2025.
