Project Background and Scope

The refurbishment of Macquarie Bank’s No.1 Martin Place offices transformed the workspace into a collaboration and innovation hub, centred around a striking inter-connecting feature staircase built within a new 8mx8m void penetration over seven floors. This workplace strategy is Activity Based with substantial collaborative areas including a central café and state of the art training spaces.
The new workspace is designed to foster wellbeing, innovation and collaboration, and WELL inspired features were included throughout to have positive impact on the health and wellbeing of staff and clients. The building’s services were upgraded to increase fresh air supply; acoustics were enhanced using specialist materials to minimise acoustic reverberation; and the lighting system was overhauled to maximise daylight and reduce glare. Other inclusions were multimedia news screens, café, staff kitchens specifically focusing on foods informed by nutritionists.

Project Challenges

The fitout was completed in a live working environment and floors were handed over in stages to allow relocation of staff over weekends. Whilst Macquarie Bank remained on the premises with swing floors and staged handovers, the works were carried out to create a 64sqm void on each floor. With the 5 Star Westin Hotel next door and the Macquarie staff on swing floors, no acoustic and vibration disruptions could be accommodated and Buildcorp successfully penetrated the void only two metres away from the adjacent shared wall.
