National contractor and developer, Built, has transformed the heritage-listed Simsmetal House, designed by renowned architect, Harry Seidler, into an innovative learning environment. 41 Mclaren Street, North Sydney is now home to Reddam House Campus – a private educational institution providing world-class facilities to 1,350 students. Inspired Education, a global provider of exclusive schools, operates the Reddam House institution in Australia and has secured a long term lease on the building. The eight-storey campus helps to meet North Sydney’s growing demand for high-quality schools as Sydney’s inner-city experiences greater urban renewal.

MBM were engaged to deliver post-contract cost management services and independent certifier services on the development. Spearheaded by Associate Director Kelvin Perrie and Quantity Surveyor Nicole Liu, the MBM team worked closely with Built and Inspired Education on the architecturally significant building’s transformation into a world-class teaching environment with 1,650sqm of additional education space.

The new campus features state-of-the-art facilities, including a performance space, theatre, sports hall, and modern classrooms. North Sydney’s Reddam House also provides students with high-tech science and design labs, music rooms, a library, alongside drama and dance studios while the heritage building’s carpark has been repurposed into a school-drop off area and auditorium. The private institution will support the continued growth of the North Sydney community and bring a vision for contemporary education to life.

The MBM team expressed their excitement for the opportunity to work on the innovative Reddam House campus, with Kelvin Perrie commenting, “It’s an impressive project and a really good example of how a building can be successfully reimagined and repurposed. It’s always exciting to be involved in a unique project and we’re proud to have contributed to creating a modern learning environment for one of Sydney’s top private schools.”

Reddam House School officially opened its doors and welcomed students at the start of the 2025 school year.

Senior Development Manager David Brain commented, “The MBM team demonstrated diligence, proactivity, and a keen eye for detail – critical behaviours in tackling a challenging adaptive reuse project. Kelvin and Nicole have worked closely with our team to ensure the project was delivered with excellence, bringing utmost professionalism as Independent Certifiers.”
