The South Australian Department for Infrastructure & Transport (DIT) and the Department for Education (DFE) are undertaking a milestone education program to upgrade 66 education facilities across the State. The departments are jointly managing school and preschool infrastructure upgrades to support the growing population and rising demand for public school services in South Australia.
DIT engaged MBM to provide quantity surveying services on the Avenues College upgrades, a school located within the north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide, Kaurna country. MBM will provide full cost management and tender services from the concept design phase through to the construction phase. The infrastructure enhancements will improve existing structures within the school, regenerate aged buildings, improve ventilation and heating, and enrich the school’s learning environment.
The project scope comprises the demolition of existing transportable buildings, a library refurbishment into a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility, and a refurbishment of existing classrooms into new contemporary learning areas. Thanks to these infrastructure improvements, the school can offer a fully equipped environment for contemporary teaching practices and accommodate the rising numbers of pupils for generations to come.
The full scope of services provided by MBM:
- Early cost planning advice
- Cost planning across all phases
- Procurement methodology advice
- Financial reporting
- Meetings and representation on cost related services
- Risk and value management reviews
- Tender evaluation and review
General Manager of MBM’s South Australia branch, Rob Williamson, led the project with support from Assistant Quantity Surveyor Tom Lumber. Rob noted the team’s involvement in the project, “We’re thrilled to be leading the cost management services for Avenues College infrastructure upgrades. Having previously supported DIT and DFE on past projects, our team was delighted to provide our guidance to the the departments and the school on another successful redevelopment. Our team looks forward to the completed school upgrades, which will create significant benefits for Avenues College staff and children.”
The project is due for completion in early 2025 just in time for the new school year.
